Civil War Part 1 Review

Directions: Under each complete the phrase, answer the question, fill in the blank, or define the definition.

Describe how Lincoln’s election splits the Union:
The southern sates left after Lincoln’s election because Lincoln supported antislavery and they felt they had no voice in the union.

Describe how the South reacts to the election of Lincoln:
The south succeeds from the north and elects there own president

Describe the founding of the Confederate government:
After the confederacy split from the north Jefferson Davis was elected and president of the confederacy. The government also boasted more power in the states instead of more power in government

Describe the breakout of the war at Fort Sumter:
Lincoln needed to bring his troops provisions while the south didn’t trust him sending ships to the fort. When asked to surrender the soldiers at Sumter said no and were attacked.

Describe the Advantages of the North:
Population, Recourses, navy

Describe the advantages of the South:
Leadership, GB and French support, can play defense if attacked on southern ground

Describe Northern Strategies to win the War: Block off southern ports and march into southern states and destroy major factories

Describe Southern Strategies to win the war:
Play defense on southern territory and weaken union slowly
